This software program currently runs only on a PC. With the demo, you can see the entire program and its contents. The evaluation copy allows you to create an exercise with 5 sentences, and using keywords starting with letters from the first half of the alphabet. If you decide to purchase the program, we will send you a username and key which will allow you to register. Registering will instantly enable the entire program. For information on prices and registration, see Prices & Ordering.
During set-up, you will be given 3 options:
Full install (the software application & the vocabulary files databases)
This is the normal download for those who are purchasing the program.
Application files only
This option is for users who have previously purchased the program and want to install a new version of the software but don't need to reinstall the vocabulary database files.
Database files only
This option is for users who have previously purchased the program but who have accidentally corrupted, lost or changed their vocabulary database files and want to reinstall them.
Installation
The file you download is an installation program - to install Gerry's Vocabulary Teacher, double-click on the program and follow the on-screen instructions. The default setting installs the program in C:\Program Files\gerryvoc - for more information, see the Readme file.
Silent switch
Users can also opt to do a silent install. The silent switch allows users to install the software without user interaction. The range of command line switches is documented here:

Version Information
The current version of Gerry's Vocabulary Teacher is version 3.0 20110613.58. If you have an earlier version, it is recommended that you download and install the latest version. You will need to get a new username and registration key, available for a nominal fee of US $10.
If you wish to update your version of Gerry's Vocabulary Teacher, you can install the new version over the old version. When the program starts up, it will offer to merge the new version of the database with your old version. This process can take some time to accomplish. If you have made changes to the old database, by adding or changing sentences, you should choose to merge the databases so that you can retain your changes but also get the benefit of all the new sentences and headwords. If you have not made any changes to the database, simply load the new database instead of the old one when the program starts up for the first time.
Dialect of English Used in the Software
Gerry's Vocabulary Database comes with individual files for American, British and Canadian English. When you download the program, you will receive all three files; by clicking on one file during the setup, you are simply choosing which file to use as the default setting. Other files, including the Academic Word List sublist files, can be opened by clicking on the file option at the top of the program interface and selecting "Open a database."
Limitations of the Evaluation Copy
The only limitation to your evaluation copy is that when you build a gap-fill exercise, the demo only allows you to create an exercise with 5 sentences, and only using keywords starting with letters from the first half of the alphabet. If you decide to purchase the program, we will send you a username and key which will allow you to register. Registering will instantly enable the entire program.
System Requirements
Gerry's Vocabulary Teacher is a 32-bit Windows application. It will run on any PC running Windows 98, NT4, 2000, XP, Vista or above. The Gerry's Vocabulary Teacher software program takes up about 32~40 Mb of space on your PC. This is the equivalent of a short album of songs on a PC.
Windows Vista
The GVT program works with Windows Vista, however, in their new Windows VistaTM operating system, Microsoft originally decided to stop supporting their old standard for Help files in Windows programs (technically the WinHelp component of Win32). This includes the Help file for Gerry's Vocabulary Teacher.
Responding to customer concerns about this Help file, Microsoft has chosen to make the old Windows Help system available as an update for Vista. For information or to download the Windows Help program for Windows Vista, click here.
